Ultrasound bone healing device
The Melmak Ultrasound Bone Healing Device is designed for use in the treatment of delayed or non-union fractures and the acceleration of fresh fracture healing. It is a convenient, 20 minutes per day, non-invasive, home-based solution.
The Melmak Device delivers a low intensity pulsed ultrasound signal (LIPUS), which is recommended by the National Institute for Care and Excellence (NICE) to promote fracture healing.
Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound aims to speed up fracture healing in broken bones by stimulating bone cells to grow and repair.
The Melmak device delivers an acoustic pressure wave to the fracture site, resulting in a mechanical force that induces osteogenesis at a cellular level. It is active through all stages of fracture healing. This can result in a reduced recovery time.
The Melmak device has been specially developed for patient self-treatment. The ultrasound head is strapped in place and is operated by a simple one button press to start/stop the treatment. The device can be used in conjunction with a cast.
The low intensity ultrasound frequency used in the Melmak device has been shown to heal 86% of non-unions and accelerate the healing of fresh fractures by up to 38% in various multi-centre and randomised trials.
